"“Colombian pianists that in jazz domains have developed an established carreer in the hard solo-piano field are limited in number” (…) it results astonishing that nowadays is such a youngster as Alexander Pastrana who assumes with maturity that challenge” (…) on top of being focused and talented, Alexander Pastrana is what we could name an “adaptable” pianist. His dissimilar and picturesque curriculum accounts for it ." Luis Daniel Vega

"Silence, that is how the concert began; with that creative silence of the artist. Before the piano keys, Pastrana immersed himself by instants in a meditation, establishing an invisible link, as a medium talking to the Afterlife. All of a sudden the piano started to sing. Some random notes and the argumentative structure started to be drawn slowly. The Piano rose as a soul that became alive. An organized structure where the music flew in a coherent logic. Throughout the concert other improvisations appeared and the artist’s imagination took us to see images and to experience contrasting sensations as a parade of stories that color the thoughts and communicate emotions, each of them designed with mastery. In the first improvisation, the solvency of this young artist was amazing: the way he managed his instrument and his musical language. Since the music is a language with its own orthography and syntax, we can state the improvisation allowed the pianist to show an advanced knowledge over its different components: rhythm, melody, harmony, style and expression.
